What is a Dressing Loom in the Montessori Classroom?!
When a child approaches the dressing loom, they find a material that allows them to practice specific skills required for dressing oneself. Each loom is made with a unique set of fasteners for the child to explore: snaps, buckles, buttons, zippers, laces, or velcro can be opened and closed, again and again. By having the fasteners on a loom, the difficulty of learning such a task is isolated from the rest of the processes of dressing oneself. It is free from the added pressure to perform the task in order to get ready on time. The child can practice repeatedly and without interruption. In time, they will master the fine motor control and hand/eye coordination necessary to become independent in this area of self care.
