"The development of language is part of the development of the personality, for words are the natural means of expressing thoughts and establishing understanding between people."

Problem Solving

At this age, children are forming greater ability to convey more complex ideas to their classmates. They can more consciously engage in extensions of their work, as we see here. Two friends have decided that the color tiles can be used to build a structure (normally the color tiles are named and matched). The purpose that the structure will serve and the manner in which it is to be built is shaped by their sharing of ideas and cooperation in work. They take turns adding input for the design and assessing the structure's progress.
