Goodman Pool Swimming Lessons

Every Friday throughout the summer, the children walk over to Goodman Pool for swimming lessons. Having our school right in the middle of the city provides us with so many walkable opportunities. If you've wondered what your camper does on Friday swim days, here's a little snapshot of a swim day!

For all of our campers, both the youngest and the oldest, the teachers at Woodland and the lifeguards meet the children where they are at. Children are gently encouraged to try new things but never forced.

For the preschool campers, their swimming lessons start with songs and games as a group. Ask your camper about the "I'm a little pancake" song, where the children start on their back and flip on to their tummies (yum, yum, yummy!). "Motorboat, motorboat, go so fast" is another favorite game done in a circle.

The lifeguards ask the children to stand on the edge and sing the tree frog song -

"5 little speckled frogs, sat on a speckled log, eating the most delicious bugs, yum, yum!

One Jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool, now there are 4 little speckled frogs!"

And they jump!

The lifeguards also pour toys into the water and have the kids do a "treasure hunt."

The elder campers do mostly skill work at their lessons. They are separated into 3 groups by skill level and end their lessons with a game or by jumping in.
