Toddler 2 July in Review

"Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment." - Dr. Maria Montessori

Throughout the summer, we've explored the subject of birds. The children were exposed to bird puzzles and matched images of birds. We read field guides and a scientific booklet about the different parts of a bird. We listened for the different calls of birds and observed their behavior. On the interesting objects tray, we displayed nests and feathers and examined several egg shells. Then, in mid-July, we were invited to join Elder Camp to hold some baby chicks from Ambra's chicken coop.

Having alum students return to Woodland for a summer internship is one of the highlights for me as a teacher. The connection they have to the classroom is really special and adds vibrancy to the program.

Rose arranged a fun playdough making session for the children to participate in. Measuring, mixing, and experimenting exposed the students to science, math, and language lessons in an engaging and open ended experience.

One of the most exciting parts of summertime in TH2 is the time we spend visiting the preschool. With the transition just around the corner, we ready the children by getting to know the bigger building with its long staircases, large rooms, and expansive playground.
