Toddler 1 September in Review

“The child’s nature is to aim directly and energetically at functional independence.”

- Dr. Maria Montessori “What do you teach toddlers?” If you have ever witnessed a toddler’s determination to pursue their chosen course of action, you know they are in a sensitive period for self-discovery. As Montessori educators, we provide the environment that will best assist them in this stage of development. Toddlers want to “do it myself.” Daily routines like snack, clean up and getting ready to go outside are opportunities to practice independence in care of the self and the environment. Climbing, jumping and carrying heavy objects provide freedom of movement and help develop physical coordination. Pouring, scooping, dropping an object through a slot and dancing with scarves build concentration. Their absorbent minds are taking in all the language around them, and every interaction with teachers and peers is a chance for adults to model grace and courtesy. We feel honored to be their guides.

Classroom updates: 1. Thank you for remembering to send hats, jackets and rain gear as we head into the cooler months of fall. We really enjoy our time outdoors. 2. Don’t forget to check your parent mailboxes on the wall next to the exit door for important paperwork from administration. 3. Picture Day is October 9 & 10 for Toddler House. It usually takes place outside, weather permitting, right after drop-off. Specific details TBA. 4. We hope to see everyone at All School Open House, Thursday October 11, 5:30-7. This will be a chance for your child to show you their favorite works and to meet other T1 families.
