Toddler 2 November/December in Review

"Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment."

- Dr. Montessori

After many years of working with this age group, I am still fascinated to see that children will gravitate towards activities that were developed quite a long time ago to satisfy the child's most inner needs. A child yearns for a sense of order, discipline, and self-control. Throughout development, young people continually seek out experiences which allow them to express their command of these cornerstone developmental achievements. Or, they will find opportunities within their daily lives to learn how to obtain order, discipline, and self-control.

A child can reach these goals by walking with a pitcher of water so as not to spill it, tapping the xylophone precisely to make a beautiful sound, balancing a bean bag atop one's head, or sorting a variety of objects into distinct categories. What are some of the ways you can provide these types of experiences at home?

Thank you so much for meeting with us for conferences. Discussing your children's experiences both at home and in the classroom is so valuable for their education. We marvel at each child's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth and appreciate the opportunity to share our observations with you.

It is almost unbelievable that winter break is right around the corner, and yet... From all of us to all of you, we wish you happy holidays and a blessed new year. May your days be merry and bright!

Parent reminders:

* Thank you for labeling all of the new clothing that is coming into the classroom, winter gear included. It helps us help you and your child have a successful day each day.

* Remember to check your child's laundry basket on the top shelf in the coatroom each day.

* Our weekly yoga class will begin after the winter break.

* Three new families will join our classroom community in the months of December and January. Welcome!!
