Classroom 1 - October 2019

Classroom 1 is settling nicely into the school year. Our new friends are learning the routines of the day and are arriving at school happy to be there! Our returning friends are working hard and helping our new friends learn the routines. It has been so fun to watch our Kindergartner’s and four year olds help the three year olds throughout the day. Classroom 1 has started cooking in the classroom one day a week, thank you to everyone who was able to sign up to help. Please check your child’s classroom cubby daily to take papers and art Home, they tend to fill up fast! We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our open house on October 16th from 5:30-6:30. Thank you for all the snack donations, they are very appreciated!

The first several weeks of school are spent establishing routines and laying the groundwork for helping children achieve “normalization” in the classroom. Maria Montessori observed that when children were given freedom within an environment that was set up especially for them they would have intense, focused periods of concentration. Through this deep concentration children develop inner discipline and inner peace. It can take months for children to get to a point of normalization as they must first learn the rules, expectations and processes of working in the classroom.
