"The more the capacity to concentrate is developed, the more often the profound tranquility in work is achieved, then the clearer will be the manifestation of discipline within the child.”

One of most loved activities at group time is the passing game.  We sit together in a circle.  A child volunteers to bring our big squishy globe to the group.  As we listen to Raffi's "Sharing Song" each child takes a turn giving the globe a hug before passing it along to the child beside them.  We continue passing the globe until each child has had at least one turn. Sometimes one of our classmates will choose to pass around a special object from home, elevating the sharing experience.  Children are learning to wait for a turn, which is a great lesson in grace and courtesy and a step towards sharing.  This exercise gives children the opportunity to recognize the value in connecting with others through giving and receiving. They get to experience the joy that arises within from seeing another's happiness.

Our classmates sharpen their hand/eye coordination, explore object permanence, develop planning skills, and build concentration with the bank activity.  Popsicle sticks are inserted in the slot at the top of the cat bank, and can be removed by unsnapping the flap at the bottom.  The flap is snapped back in place and the actions are repeated.
