Toddler 2 - October 2019

October 4, 2019

Hello Toddler 2 families!

We have had such a wonderful start to our school year in Toddler 2. Children are bonding with each other and their teachers, adjusting to our daily routines and building concentration through their hard work with the materials. Many have made gains in their journey in toilet learning as well which has been exciting and so rewarding. Thank you for being so open and steady with supporting your child in this hard work. Please continue to check laundry baskets for clothes and nap blankets (sent home on Fridays) and replenish clean clothing supplies in their baskets. If you have plastic grocery bags at home, we would absolutely be happy to take them off your hands!

Also, as the weather changes please be sure to send appropriate outdoor clothing. We will go outside everyday unless there is lightning or it is too cold (feels like below zero).

A few noteworthy events coming up in our classroom:

-Specials start this week. We will have cooking, music and yoga every week.

-Wednesday, October 16 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM: Open House. You and your family are welcome to come explore the classroom and ask questions. We will provide refreshments.

-Friday, October 25: Woodland is closed for Staff Inservice.

Warmly,

Amanda Isaksson, Sarah O'Farrell, Acadia Prestidge and Jill Jaworski

During our work cycles in Toddler 2, there is sometimes a beautiful buzz which we hear only when every child is fully absorbed in their work. Each material has been carefully chosen for this particular group's development and interests and placed on a shelf their height. When the time is right, they choose the desired material, bring it to a rug or table and get to work. Sometimes they concentrate for two minutes, sometimes for a half hour. When they are finished, they have a lightness to them. Like an urge was satisfied. Maybe it's the urge to be independent, the urge to carry a heavy object, to scrub a dirty dish until it shines or to simply connect with nature. Occasionally we'll see a slight smile or a little skip-hop upon completion. That satisfaction is a result of a satiated craving for purposeful, innately-driven work. Something inside them clicks, like a harmonious syncing of environment, mind and body. It is a beautiful sight we are so lucky to see everyday! This space was made for them, evolves with them, and they know it in their heart. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your children everyday.
